Terroir al Límit Dits del Terra Priorat Carignane 2011
Les Tosses is a steep, 90 year-old vineyard of head-pruned Carinyena on llicorella soil that Dominik Huber discovered while riding his motorbike on the twisting and mountainous dirt roads around Torroja. While many growers in the Priorat preferred Garnacha or were planting Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, Dominik saw the potential for pure, old-vine, Carineyena (Carignan). Inspired by the Burgundian concept of terroir, the minuscule yields from Les Tosses are not blended with any other variety, or Carinyena from other sites. It is harvested by hand, with whole cluster native fermentations, infused rather than extracted, with only two weeks on the skins before pressing. It finishes fermentation and malo in a single 1200L Stockinger fuder where it rests undisturbed for 18-24 months.

A beautiful bottle. Notes a cranberry and earth. Powerful fruit flavor. Powerful nose. A great choice with lamb or steak, but I had it alone and it was impressive.

As @P A just recommended... I'm on to the next wine from that last disaster... 2nd decanter working, I'll let one part of Spain rescue the other .. Massive strawberry on the nose of this thing so far... Acidity and tannins are medium plus, very strong structure for 13.5. Well worth the investment. 93 points

Almost perfect. I really need to put more time and effort into my reviews, it's tough at the end of a Monday. What I can say is that the aromatics are beautiful. Palate is soft but with a slight acidic pull in the back of the jawbone. Would hold.up well to meat, but tonight I drinking it naked. I have other vintages of this that I will pop over the holidays. Cheers!! 93 points
