Biondi-Santi is one of the most notable families in the wine world, and perhaps the most notable in Italy. Credited with inventing modern day Brunello, the Biondi Santi family was a pioneer in producing wines for aging. By the mid-1940's Biondi Santi was the only producer on record producing Brunello, having declared only four vintages since 1888. Their success paved the way for other producers and today there are over 200. The Biondi Santi family's continual commitment to the development of their vines through innovative microclimatic studies and generations of vine cloning make them among the most elite producers of Brunello to this day.

This was reticent and quite closed, but it clearly has the class and power to go 20+ years and improve exponentially. Bottle from @Matthew Beckman who graciously contributed both an ‘06 and an ‘07 from this Brunello giant.

Ripper. Bittersweet, ripe tannins, so Italian, perfect.

A lovely Brunello. Classic in style, nose and character. Lovely. Drinking well but could go for another decade ( or two!).

Medium-bodied. Earthy and mellow. Musty and dry.

Just delicious. What Brunello should be. Not quite at the level of some of the Poggio Di Sotto wines, but that's rare air.
