Ornellaia, one of the Italian 'first growths' is a remarkable cuvee crafted from vineyards grown on the exceptional terroirs of the Estate. With an extremely selective production, Ornellaia embodies a unique quality pedigree and style, renowned as one of the finest wines of Italy. Ornellaia 2012 appears a deep ruby, and a remarkably beguiling bouquet boasts rich fruit and spices notes. The palate shows well-rounded, full, and generous, with glossy tannins and a complete absence of any roughness. The 2012 lacks none of the proverbial concentration that distinguishes Ornellaia's, great vintages, but this vintage adroitly masks that richness behind an expansive, magisterial structure, then concludes with a near-endless finish.

Opened 4-5 hours. The nose and palate were so dominated by oak that it was difficult for me to get past, YMMV. Very polished and high quality fruit that is buried beneath the surface , will it integrate with the oak at some point and reach its full potential? I am not totally convinced to what degree it will.

In a very dumb and closed phase. Dark fruit core underneath that is trapped in adolescence.

Big and showy. The '12 is remarkably open right now. Crushed blueberry, roasted espresso bean, graphite.

Ornellaia now has a tricky system of art labels that even the export manager has a hard time explaining.
