Broad and a bit clunky. Nice with time in the glass.

12.9% ABV 82% Chardonnay, 18% Pinot Noir. 35% fermented in barrel. Serving this next to another $120 bubbly (2006 Taittinger Comte) I have to judge with both my wallet and preference. Unfortunately that doesn’t fall in the favor of this Schramsberg which showed a bit of reduction notes (noticeably some lead pencil shavings). No doubt a great US sparkler but not a competitor with great Champagne at this price point.

Pinot noir heavy has wonderful pure red fruits orange zest and mineral nuances. Great bottle.

What an incredible second day here in Napa. Jesus started us off with an amazing tasting at Davies/Schramsberg, Crocker & Starr gave us our cab franc fix, Montagu & Addax put on a double tasting, and Hourglass knocked it out of the park at the end of the day! I won’t post each wine we tasted, but I’ll highlight the best from each spot. @jesus g was a killer host. He opened up some older sparklers to compare against new releases as well as poured some very impressive JDavies reds, including the Diamond Mtn Cab. This JSchram Reserve ‘08 though was on a different level. Honeyed almond, apricot, lemon curd. Texture and acidity were seductive at 10yrs old. Happy to have one tucked away for the foreseeable future. Legit, @jesus g !

Heavy apple notes, hint of brioche. Since I’ve been ruined by having had Cristal (thanks to an awfully nice friend of mine), nothing can ever compare!

Has that schramsberg green Apple! Very fresh, hint of pear, bready, pretty acidic, a little nutmeg, going great with our black bean and pumpkin chili!
