The wines of Livio and Lorenzo Sassetti, from the Pertimali estate, are considered among the greatest of all in Montalcino.The excellent production of Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino is the result of the remarkable devotion of the Sassettis to their land and its fruits and the extraordinary location of their vineyards, in the Montosoli hill. Located in the North of Montalcino, with South-East exposure, the area is highly reputed for producing wines of great complexity and elegance. The pedological characteristics of its terroir gives wines that are a perfect balance of the power and richness of Southern Montalcino with the finesse of the North.

This is pretty much everything I want Sangiovese to be. This was captivating immediately with spicy, smoky aromatics mixed with a spicy cherry palate of which all I could remark to myself was "alive". Wonderful power, and at an effortless weight which makes this complex, deep wine in danger of a quick disappearance as it is way too easy to drink. Amazing.

A plethora of dried floral notes: lavender, rose petal, and white flowers. Loamy soil, tobacco-laden red fruit, dried citrus peel, and some secondary wet clay. Really harmonious and in a haunting way.
