A joint venture between Robert Mondavi and Baroness Philippine de Rothschild. Indicative blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot.The 2010 vintage release of Opus One received the highest rating ever.Aromas of blackberry, rose petals, chocolate and espresso accentuate fruity and earthy nuances. Round velvety tannins enrobe a silky texture with a touch of minerality. The flavors of dark fruit are enhanced by the well integrated acidity. The acidity and tannin structure promise a very long life ahead.

Earth leather cedar and baked red and black fruits. Very complex and beautifully stuctured. Tannins very fine and integrated. For a fairly young wine it was really nicely far along. This was a suprising standout among some really strong wines.

Bright dark ruby. Initially reticent nose opened in the glass to reveal wonderfully complex scents of black- and redcurrant, blackberry, minerals, licorice, loam and tobacco leaf, plus a whiff of leather. Seamless, savory and classy on entry if a bit subdued, then delivers lovely restrained sweetness and a complicating wildness in the middle palate that still calls for more bottle aging. Old World in its classic dryness, this highly concentrated Opus One really shines on its vibrant, slowly building back end, where the broad, dusty tannins caress and saturate the palate and allow the fruits and minerals to build. A wine of outstanding depth, clarity, finesse of grain and class; it's hard to imagine that this site could give more. Long-time winemaking director Michael Silacci noted that the estate did not strip leaves prior to the brutal August heat spike. (Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2020)

A fitting end to owning a winery as 2010 was the year we officially took over the winery. Tight, a touch of Brett but very pretty. Red fruit earthy spice and intrigue. Not a 100 pointer, but certainly a rocking wine.

Silky, perfumed cab blend. Absolutely delicious. Seamless and Bordeaux like but without a hard edge to be found. Tons of red cherry, cola, fruitcake and graphite. It could not be more round and well balanced. Haven't had a bottle of opus I really liked in some time but this is different for sure.
