Montevertine Le Pergole Torte Sangiovese 2015 (3000ml)

$765

Le Pergole Torte: the prestige wine of Montevertine is only produced in outstanding vintages. This ultimate wine is aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for 18 months and then racked into small French oak (Allier) barrels for the final six month stage of its elevage. It is produced primarily from a two hectare vineyard planted in 1968 exclusively to Sangiovese vines with a north-northeast exposure.

Splash decanted and served immediately; enjoyed over the next four hours. On the nose, it smells like 2015…gorgeous and giving with fresh, ripe cherry, dry earth and green herbs. The bouquet opened up over time and just seemed to gain power and intensity adding blood orange and red flowers. On the palate, this is bone-dry with silky texture and huge structure which also seemed to go from strength to strength. The finish is long and ever so satisfying. Drink now with a lot of patience or enjoy through 2040.

It is glorious Pergole Torte. Full fermentation in cement after which it receives 18 months in barrique. Multiple layers of dark fruit and cherries. You can almost bite the wine. Smooth but yet with a lot of grip. bravo.

Bright ruby . Bright raspberry , red cherry , very bright but ripe and really attractive fruit. Nice red berry palate , red cherry and raspberry. Good intensity with rounded ripe tannins , balanced acidity and good length. Even though the fruit is quite ripe there is a balance , freshness and finesse about this wine that leaves everything in perfect balance. This is obviously very young but is showing quite well , will improve over the next 7-10 years and hold for a further 7-10

Really lovely, rich but with elegance and lift, feels more integrated right off at this stage than the recent 2014 I had (which was still lovely)
