Louis Roederer Cristal Brut Champagne Chardonnay Pinot Noir Blend 2002

$495

On the nose, the wine is intense and delicate. It reveals a clean and well-blended mixture of flavors of honey, cocoa, lightly toasted hazelnuts and candied citrus fruit without exuberance, but luxurious simplicity! A savoury explosion of ripe fruit on the attack, revealing red fruit, white chocolate, caramel and Danish pastry, typical of Cristal. Silky, concentrated texture, leaning on intense, powerful and vinous structure, but maintaining refinement. The palate builds up to attain a delicious sensation of well-blended harmony of flavours. A fresh finish with a hint of bitterness making it almost crunchy.

This is stunning. A beautiful nose of bright fruit with fresh lemon and yellow flowers and hints of secondary notes coming through. On the palate gorgeous full sweet fruit with some brioche and lemon oil and perfect balance. Long and seductive and wonderfully pitched. Really good.

This is so fresh but definitely in the drinking window. Some ripe bright fruit. Lemon oil, a touch of stone fruit, limestone. Great acidity and a lovely Pinot heft

Unforgettable and held up like a champ. Ripe golden apple, macadamia nuts and brioche. Does it deserve 100 points ...you bet. Whether it’s the bottle age or the vintage this was one of the more memorable bottles of Cristal I’ve ever had @dempsysteakhouse

Open for business. Sweet lemon, hints of corn, some salinity. Very expressive on the midpalate with secondary notes coming through towards the end. Biscuits and honey. Great acidity throughout. Years ahead.

So the Fevre Clos bottles were going down quickly and the conversation turned to Champagne. A guest stated her favorite was Cristal and I happened to have a bottle in the ready to drink bin. Light gold with nice mousse when poured that gives a smile-inducing bouquet in the nose. Notes of lemon and sweet citrus, brioche bread, some apricot, some almond and white chalk. Expands in the mouth, coating everything it hits. Hold it in a bit and your face goes flush. Everyone really enjoyed this bottle which is drinking very well now but will certainly evolve and improve with more age.

Pale light yellow gold. Lively constant tiny bubbles. Deep round nose with high pitched fruit. Notes of pear, grapefruit, chalk and limestone. With more air you find some citrus and honeysuckle. Chewy in the mouth with great mouthfeel. Coats the entire mouth. Long finish lingers a minute or more. Velvet. Killer juice. Was inspired to open one of these after seeing a friend’s TN this weekend. Glad I did.
