The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with an alluring and unmistakable 'Larkmead' bouquet. Aromas of deep, blue plum skins and black currants are accentuated with purple flowers and red licorice. There is a hint of spice in the wine that is coupled with dried herbs that add a savory note to the nose. The highlight is the crushed gravel that envelopes the wine; it is the signature of the Larkmead Estate that you find in the aroma and on the finish. In the mouth, the beauty of the wine is its expansiveness. The wine enters with medium body weight and compact, liqueur-like flavors before building to a broad, long, sweet structure that lingers on the palate well after the wine is gone. The currants, crushed stone and subtle herbs carry the finish. There is a true Cabernet Sauvignon purity to this wine and an authentic sense of place; in the Larkmead Estate, it translates into balancing intense and pleasurable fruitfulness with a restrained and subtle elegance. The wines of the 2012 vintage will be heralded as one of our best efforts to date. In tasting our Cabernet Sauvignon lots at all stages of their life - from fermentation to the final months and weeks of barrel aging - the wines have consistently shown a style and class that may only be rivaled by the 2007 vintage. The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is drinkable upon release but will age impeccably over the next decade and should be considered a wine to cellar beyond 10 years.

opaque purple; blackberries, mint, tobacco leaf, violets, graphite; dark fruit, anise, slight herbaceousness, crushed gravel reminiscent of an Old World wine; 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from older vines, planted in Cortina Gravel, aged 17 months in 58% new French oak; the black label pays homage to Dr. Harold P. Ripe dark fruits, sweet spice and big red floral bouquet on the nose. M+ tannins, big structure, dark cassis; dry blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, strawberries, used coffee grounds, fresh and dry red florals, dusty tannins, dry brown earth with crushed rocks, medium spice, decent acidity, finish is a little lean and ends in the drier side. Another one that needs at least five more years before you open.

Impressive. There's a while lot of deep dark density. Fruit and earthy pepper and mineral. Entry of silk. Dusty chalky serious tannin....yet friendly. It is delicious and solid, above above average.

Delicious. Great aromatics with loads of dark berry and plum at the center of perfumed oak influence and age driving tertiary aromas of leather, tobacco, and sandalwood. Dark and brooding palate with nice acidity and well mellowed tannins. Gave it a 2 hour decant before drinking.

Wow! Deep, dark and dense. Lots of black currants, boysenberry and blackberries with some tobacco and anise. Long finish - at least 60 seconds. Tannins are big but they don’t hurt you. Silky palate. Outstanding.
