Gemstone Vineyard is a small, family-owned producer of estate wines. Their focus is on crafting richly textured red wines from Bordeaux varietals grown on their 16-acre hillside property in the Yountville appellation of Napa Valley. The 2011 Gemstone Estate Red, comprised of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc, presents with aromas of dark fruits seguing into and balancing beautifully with notes of herbs and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, generous and velvety. A beautifully complex wine.

Double decanted. Gobs of raisins blackberry, cassis, black tea, and baking spices. Really soft tannin with acid keeping things balanced. Chocolate/coffee finish with a green/herbal character that could be the vintage or cab franc. I enjoyed this, but can imagine the non-2011s being too much.

Off the charts intense. Nice currant nose that opens on the palate to deep mushrooms and curry
