Far Niente Chardonnay is a blend of superlative Napa Valley vineyards, located in Coombsville, a cool growing region nestled in the rolling countryside and protected by the hills east of the city of Napa. Coombsville offers the characteristic climate of Carneros, with less wind, along with deeper, well-drained gravelly loam and volcanic ash soils. The combination of these spectacular vineyards results in the subtle, tropical flavors, complex aromas and uncommon richness that have long been associated with Far Niente Chardonnay. The 2013 Far Niente Chardonnay offers tropical aromas of citrus and melon layered with honeysuckle, perfume and toasted oak. A juicy entry transitions to a vibrant, yet oily, palate, which builds to a clean and refreshing finish. This wine is well-integrated and beautifully concentrated, with lush citrus flavors and hints of minerality.

One of CA's oldest wineries, Far Niente, founded in 1885 by world traveler John Benson. The winery flourished until Prohibition, at which time it was abandoned and fell into complete disrepair. The stately stone shell of a winery was purchased in 1979 by Gil Nickel. Tropical and stone fruit aromas with complex spice and oak notes. On the palate apple, melon and citrus flavors, creamy, with toasty oak, fig and honey tones. Lingering finish ending with vibrant acidity & mineral character. Consistent. Nice!

Enjoyable tasting event with Far Niente wines tonight. I've had a few Nickel & Nickel, but never any of Far Niente's own wines. This probably needs a bit more bottle age. I was somewhat underwhelmed. Knowing the name, I expected a certain experience that never arrived. Still, whether it be my preference in style or this needing more time, it was by no means terrible. Very light...no butter bomb here. More texture than I expected on the palate which was nice. Honey and breadcrumbs on the finish.

Outstanding. Love their Chardonnay. It always ages well. Been buying this wine since their first vintage and never, ever, been disappointed.
