The 2012 vintage of 'IX Estate' Red portrays the same exuberance of the 2002, with added purity and definition. This vintage of 'IX Estate' captures all of the terroir and the varietal notes we love from this rocky, iron-rich site, with even a greater sense of volume. The wine is loaded with inky cassis, red currant, and black licorice aromatics. The grilled herbs, the iron, and the crushed rock flavors from 'IX Estate' beam through the fruit giving this wine a perfect sense of place. The texture is lushly structured with immense volume and a long, persistent finish. The synthesis of fruit and earth reflect ripeness balanced with precision - a hallmark of this vineyard. The 2012 IX Estate Red wine is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot.

Gorgeous nose, layers of black fruit, potpourri, chaparral, lavender, asian spices, sweet herbs, tobacco, wet slate, coffee. Highly aromatic, glycerin richness, concentration yet remarkably nimble on the palate. The sweet oak tannin could use some resolve, and the ABV pokes out on the finish. Very curious where this is heading, also where it’s been. Excited for harvest!

Insanely dark ruby red. Slightly savory attack with notes of black fruits, layered and rounded with light perfume and baking spices. Heavy tannins (8.5/10) and full bodied. Darker than the Cariad, with dark cocoa, blackberries and a slight stoniness. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2042.

Outstanding. Maybe I should have waited a few years to drink this as it will only get better. But it was just one of those things

Celebrating @James K birthday! This was WoTN unanimously. It was complex, yet easy. Beautiful nose and even better palate. We talked about how you couldn’t need anything more in a wine and if you had to only have one wine forever this would be a candidate. Great wine, great food, great friends.

Singularly rich and balanced. Dark fruit, graphite, and pebbles on the palette make this a special wine.

Nose is stupid. Just rose and plum and black raspberry. A wall of fruit but not intimidating. Somehow good. I love it. His might be the only appealing thing about Napa

Dark red fruit, lavender, mocha, red currants. Easygoing wine by Colgin standards but typical of the 2012 vintage.
