Château Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2006

$565

Elegance is the one word that should be used to describe the 2006 Haut Brion. The aromas, initially reserved, opens up softly and slowly. Notes of minerals are followed by red berries, which segue into earthy notes dominated by fresh ground coffee beans. On the palate, the wine is silky and velvety complemented by suave tannins whose freshness carries them along to an unending length.

Surprisingly fruit forward. Big energy. Lots of black fruit, floral, licorice and some shoe polish. Then with time licorice and red fruit. Velvety but big structure too. This wine is still primary and needs time. A baby.

Not the best Haut Brion. Very tight. Lots of sediment and lots of time needed for this to even start to open up. Decanted 4+ hours. Dense and thick. Ripe dark fruit. Strong earthiness. I liked it but it never found the top gear.

One of YT’s finest wines I’ve had, 4 hour decant transformed it and continued to evolve while drinking. Wow.

Nose is slightly too evolved. Maybe needs more air. Palate is just great. Soft earthy, tannic and energetic.
