Bodegas Alion, owned by the legendary Vega Sicilia estate, was founded in 1986. The first vintage to be commercialized was 1991. The winery is located just down the road from Vega Sicilia and the wine is made from 100% tempranillo from 37 hectares that were planted in 1986 as well as some younger vines planted at Vega Sicilia. With an extremely smooth, polished palate feel and oodles of deep, classy currant and plum fruit, and remarkable harmony and presence. Even in its tender youth this modern-feeling effort combines both hedonism and elegance. Gorgeous.

Dark ruby hue. Aromas of cassis, cherry, earthy, leather, licorice, plum, smoke, tar, violet. Full bodied with full tannins and high acidity. Soft tannins. A little hot at the outset and needs time to open up. But otherwise beautiful and expressive. A definitive pairing with red meat. 100% Tempranillo.
