Arnot-Roberts Sonoma Coast Syrah 2016

$39

Arnot-Roberts Wines is a joint project of schoolhood friends, Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Lee Roberts. Since founding their winery in 2001, the duo has been one of the most progressive and revolutionary producers on the California landscape. Together with a small group of fellow trailblazers, they have led the way to help re-define the paradigm of what California wine can be and taste like. The 2014 Syrah is produced from a blend of six vineyards on the Sonoma Coast - La Cruz, Baker Lane, Clary Ranch, Griffin's Lair, Marietta and Que.

Fantastic! Drank over two days and watched it grow up a bit. Came out of the bottle a little coy but really came alive. Medium bodied but with a meaty, greasy flavor, underpinned with wildflowers and spice. Terrifically balanced with lots of depth.

The 2016 Syrah (Sonoma Coast) is dazzling. Inky and dark in its fruit profile, but also light on its feet, the 2016 is all class. Hints of lavender, black pepper, mint and cloves grace the palate in an exquisite, mid-weight Syrah that emphasizes freshness and nuance. Deceptively medium in body, the 2016 has enough underpinnings of structure to drink well for many years. This is a fabulous appellation-level Syrah. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, April 2018)

Team drinks at Aldo Sohm's wine bar continues with this Syrah from Arnot Roberts. My view is that pretty much everything these guys make is delicious. This bright, dark fruits, bacon fat, rich, enveloping wine is beguiling. One sip requires a second, and necessitates a third, until the glass is empty.

Väldigt koncentrerad med mörka bär, ljuvliga färska örter och söt lakrits. Hög syra och strävhet och långt strävt slut. Gott redan nu, lär vara magiskt om 5–10 år. Dyrt men ganska prisvärt (431kr)

Crazily enough, first time having anything from Arnot-Roberts. This was an excellent (and very reasonably marked up) wine on the list at Zuni Cafe in SF. Hints of dark red fruit on the nose, but more earth and minerality and a bit of iron meatiness comes through on the palate. Only 12% abv, which keeps this light on its feet. Finish a smidge less than fully integrated at this point, but the acid is refreshing. Really enjoyable and would love to try some of their wines with some good age.

Middle of the road Syrah. Nothing overly expressive here.

Sour Cherry, violets and fennel seed on the nose and pallet. Hint of cola and black pepper on the finish. Beautifully balanced and perfect acidity. Long finish. Great choice from a lengthy wine list, Kase! Revisited this one on 8/24/19. Still just as terrific!
