Araujo Estate Altagracia Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2013

$139$115

Altagracia, named after Bart Araujo's grandmother, is a Bordeaux-style blend vinified in the same manner as the Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruit for Altagracia is sourced both from the Eisele Vineyard and from certain other Napa Valley vineyards where we hold long-term grape contracts and which are farmed to our specifications. This Napa Valley Red Table Wine, while very ageable, is readily enjoyable in its youth. This Altagracia is a generous wine reflecting the exceptional quality of the vintage. The nose on the 2013 reveals rose petal notes with a hint of peony, then it opens up with blackcurrant, dark cherry aromas and a pinch of licorice. The mouthfeel is unctuous and succulent with a savory black fruit sustained by tight tannins and a finish on blond tobacco notes. This may be the finest Altagracia to date, deeper and more concentrated than 2012, with a darker character and a great ageing poten-tial. It is in essence the more approachable little brother of the Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.'

Boom. Big Cali cab. Drinking well with floral nose - but with secondary notes of walnut and bergamot. Pairing well with latkes - the ripe acidity cuts through the oily notes - which I thought would last for 8 days - but the wine stands firm.

Probably the best wine I have ever had. Christmas Day with everyone in Austin, alongside a phenomenal Bordeaux and others, but this was my favorite.

Doesn't get much better. Super long finish. Round and full bodied. Stands alone. No need for food.
