Agrapart & Fils (Pascal Agrapart) 7 Crus Brut Champagne Chardonnay NV

$59

The Champagne house of Agrapart et Fils, located in the lovely village of Avize in the heart of the Cote de Blancs was established in 1894. Founded by Arthur Agrapart, today the house is run by the fourth generation of the family. The two Agrapart brothers, Pascal and Fabrice, continue to maintain the same commitment to excellence and hand-crafted wines that has earned this fine domaine its loyal customer base in France. The 7 Crus Blanc de Blanc has 100% of the fruit planted and picked from estate-owned parcels located in each of the seven villages in the Cote des Blancs: Avize, Oger, Oiry, Cramant, Avenay Val d'Or, Bergeres les Vertus, and Mardeuil. In selecting the best grapes of all seven villages, Pascal Agrapart has succeeded in demonstrating the fundamental character of Cotes des Blancs in one cuvee...with a 10% dousing of Pinot Noir.

The NV Brut 7 Crus is a very pretty, entry-level wine in this range. Bright, mineral and intensely vibrant, the 7 Crus is all energy. All the elements are so well proportioned. A blend of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir, this captures all the house signatures with tons of energy and better overall balance than in some previous editions. White flowers, chalk and citrus linger. Dosage is 6 grams per liter. Disgorged: June, 2023. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2023)

Apples and yeast waft upon opening. Vigorously effervescent with lots of pure fruit and a real stoniness on the palate, very vibrant if a little primary at present.

The NV Brut 7 Crus is an attractive, easygoing wine that will drink well upon release. A touch of Pinot softens the edges nicely, giving this Chardonnay-base Champagne tons of accessibility. Lemon confit, chamomile, mint and white pepper all open in the glass, but it is the wine's textural feel that makes the 7 Crus so rewarding to taste and drink today. This release is equal parts 2017 and 2016, from parcels in Avize, Oger, Oiry, Cramant, Avenay Val d’Or, Bergères les Vertus and Mardeuil. About 25% of the wine was done in neutral oak, the rest in cask. Dosage is 7 grams per liter. Disgorged: April, 2020. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2020)
