A wine of tremendous energy. Much like other Champagnes of this vintage, the acid plays a starring role which, to some palates, may be a bit much at this early stage in its evolution. However, with some air, it relaxes a bit and begins to show off its character…and this is a wine of tremendous character. Lemons, minerals and smoke dominate now but it’s the sheer depth that pulls you in and won’t let you go. My first experience with the 2008 and I have to say that it met my lofty expectations. This is a legend in the making.

Citrus; finger lime, smoky minerals. Bright, a little bitter and with an interesting saline quality. On the palate this is weightless, flush with beautiful acid, and a texture that is subtle. Hint of marzipan. Not quite the aromatic complexity I was expecting, but maybe that will come with age.

Pleasantly tart and crisp. Fine bubbles, just perfect. Rivals best Cristal I’ve had.

Classic Dom on the nose-no question. While wonderful now time will bring a more cohesive wine. Will be hard to keep your hands off of it!

Bigger and rounder than past Dom I have had. Was still flying a day after opening.

Celebrating with a good friend of mine, opened a bike shop in DC. Lemon, lime peel, waffles, slice of creaminess & bright not sharp acidity.Touch of menthol/mineral & stone flavors. Love to revisit this again in about five years.

Quite open. White flowers, lemon oil, oyster shells. Great bracing acidity. Tighter than the legacy alongside. Delicious.

Legacy edition. Fine and sharp at the front, great bright fruit. A steeliness with a slightly creamy edge. Still young but pretty amazing material and nice stuff now.

Everything is here in abundance. Maturity will magnify those traits. What fascinates me is I believe it will drink beautifully at every stage of life but at the same time highlighting a different component. However at no point will one element dominate to shut this down and prevent it from providing immense drinking pleasure. Happy New Year everyone!
