Bodegas Ego Infinito Monastrell Blend 2015

This had all the characteristics you like in a good jumilla without the pomp and circumstance of a fancy bodega. 36/25/20/19 monastrell/cab/Syrah/verdot. Rounded fruit, dash of cocoa powder, plum, and deep red cherry w a touch of white pepper and a really nice wash of tannins. Popped w some slightly spicy food.

Not bad for $20, but just too fruity and sweet up front, and too strong and acidic in the finish.

Lots of texture, pomegranate, raisin. Not bad, but could use more acidity.

Wonderful aromas of violet, and plum. Big bold BlackBerry, plum, smoke, licorice, and mint. Perfect for grilled chicken milanese.

Mixed feelings. (Get it? It’s a blend.) It’s big, it’s inexpensive. The nose promises and what comes next delivers some of that promise. But there’s a sour note in the finish that I can’t ignore. In the end, it’s just ok. Update: I tried another bottle of the 2015 and Jason is right. Any unpleasantness in the finish is masked by food. Still would like more tannins and less fruitiness but I upped my rating a bit. Thanks for the comment Jason!

Color of shades of purple. Nose of dark fruits, like black and blueberry, vanilla sweetness, milk chocolate, and a bit spice. Taste of solid tannins, silky and mouthful, oaky and sweetness from vanilla and ripe black cherry, maybe a bit too sweet, spices and zest on 2nd wave, and a bit medicinal note. Tasty. Aftertaste is medium long, with warmth, more oak, more repetition from the tastes. Sip after sip.
