Found this 18 yr old Zin in the back of a wine fridge. Courts taste was awful. After an hour it came around and was very tasty despite a loss of freshness. Still palatable (surprisingly) on day 2 when I started to pour it out...

Big, big night drinking the 2001 vintage! We only have a few bottles left, but so glad we saved some. The best Zin I've had in a very long time. Smooth, supple and perfectly spiced! A very pleasant surprise, bursting with red fruit.

Deep purple in color with a wide purplish rim. Fruity nose of blackberries, sweet cherries, black currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn and pencil lead. Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and long legs. Dry and extremely fruity on the palate with sweet cherries, plums, black currants, coffee, oak, cloves, light alcohol, earth, spices, peppercorn, tobacco and herbs. Medium plus on the finish with soft tannins and tangy cranberries. This Sonoma Zinfandel is always enjoyable. Drinking nicely now and will be better in the next few years. Spicy and bold with mild complexity. Still very fruity, and needs a few years in the bottle to chill out. Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up. 14.8% alcohol by volume. 89 points. $20.

For 1998: Give it some time to open. Nose has dark cherry and caramel. Smooth, earthy, ripe blueberries.

Bright, ripe fruit and easy drinking. Nothing crazy but great for the price.

Seghesio us probably my favorite zinfandel producer but this is their bare bones basic version. Still loaded with sour cherry and raspberry notes and extremely drinkable, but their Cortina vineyard, Rockpile and Home Ranch provide better expressions for just a little more.
