A Black Velvet, traditionally made with Guinness and Champagne, was first created in London in 1861 to mourn the death of Prince Albert. Adding a drizzle of homemade Black Licorice Syrup (and richly flavored oatmeal or chocolate stout) creates a molasses-scented elixir that’s anything but somber.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup stout, preferably oatmeal or chocolate, chilled
1 teaspoon Black Licorice Syrup, chilled
1/4 cup dry sparkling wine, chilled
Black licorice strip for garnish (optional)
Method:
Combine stout and syrup in a Champagne flute and gently stir. Top with sparkling wine and garnish with licorice strip, if desired.
