Qupé has long established itself has one of California’s go-to producers for top quality Rhône-style wines. Their Central Coast Syrah is no exception, and a bargain at that. Vinous wine critic Josh Raynolds says, “Juicy blackberry and blueberry flavors are complicated by notes of allspice and violet, with a smoky quality sneaking in on the back end. Supple tannins build with air and give shape to the long, spicy, penetrating finish. Very fresh and very Syrah, with fruit to burn.” Pair this wine with heartier fare such lamb shank, grilled Portobello mushrooms, or pork chops.

Jammy, spicy, refreshing bold. Great food wine, yet drinks well alone.

v20. This is good!! Toasty nose. Rich, deep, blackberry fruit. Long, bright, chocolate and soft earth finish. Nicely balanced.

From 375. Dark, bodacious fruit, trending toward liqueur-like. Drink up!

Have to say this is my new fav go to Wine. Tastes a level above its price range - Opens up so well light but rich

Nice wine. Let it breath a bit first. Big flavor but a too much spice for my taste. Layer Cake Shiraz a better choice for me

The wine is dark, and smells that way. The nose is dominated by blackberry and plum aromas, with a dash of violets thrown in for good measure. There is also a certain set of fragrances that comes from the oak - spices, tobacco, cedar and the like. The palate is rich and delightful, if maybe a bit too boisterous. What do you want from Syrah, though? The tannins are firm and paired quite well with a glazed pork chop, duck rice and mashed potatoes.

Not bad. Nothing jaw-dropping about this wine either. Quite jammy and fruit-forward; lacking some essential structure.

Fuck France for tonight. Love calif at the moment and this is brilliant; peppery, complex, dare I say it Rhone-esque. HAPPY.
