From one of France’s most iconic producers, the Chapoutier Belleruche Côtes-du-Rhône delivers a sumptuous wine of class and value. Drawing from four departments in the Rhône, the wine gains complexity from the various soils in which its grapes were grown. Josh Raynolds says, “Bright and spicy on the nose, displaying fresh red berry aromas and a hint of cracked pepper. Silky and focused in the mouth, offering tangy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a hint of spicecake.” Enjoy this wine today with everything from a hamburger or bowl of chili to filet mignon or spaghetti Bolognese.

Wild berry, cherry compote, earth, little pepper spice, rhubarb pie, medium tannins, slate mouthfeel, crushed rocks on the finish and nice acid. Great ribeye wine.

Nice CDR, but really nice because we are sharing the bottle with family in Paris.

Screw top, drop top. Half of the bottle was consumed on the first day while the remaining half was finished three days later. On day one, it was super fresh and racy...almost reminded me of cru Beaujolais. By day three, it had gained weight and complexity. Blue and red fruits, some garrigue and meat. Fresh berries and minerals on the palate. Lacking uniqueness but this was so much better after it got some air. 2015 was a very flattering vintage for the Southern Rhône and I suspect that will prove true through most of Europe. Drink after a long decant or over the next five years.

A little too minerally to rate higher. Bill McCleary, Surdyk’s: "Minerally undercurrent, with blackberry and red currant followed by tar and floral notes. Well-structured finish. Chapoutier uses biodynamic farming to grow his grapes. This is an excellent example of a southern Rhone red with Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre blended to a tasty finish. Soft on tannin with no harsh finish. A spiciness that layers over the fruit."

Disapponting short finish, and plain nose/palate, probably vintage related. 2013 vintage.

Might be the lack of taste and smell, but it tastes like cough syrup right now.
