Dirt minerals mint anise and a beautiful nose. Rich color and long finish. Had with cassoulet - a great match. 2000 vintage.

2015 vintage. This big 101 ha estate is considered one of the oldest in Bordeaux with vines planted in the 14th century. It's owned by the Castel family since 1971. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Beautiful nose with cassis, blueberries and cedar wood. While the mouth doesn't quite live up to the nose, this is a classic Haut-Médoc with good purity, fresh acidity and well-integrated tannin that opens up nicely in the glass and that should age well. Could do with a bit more body but good value at 12,90 euro. Decanting recommended if you drink it now. Abv. 13%.

Yum. Soft tannins from rather long aging, some beautiful leftover black fruit, mixed with tertiary notes of mushroom and truffle. Beautifully acidic, a joy.

It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Nose of black fruits with light oak, vanilla, licorice, chocolates and light metals. Full-bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with black plums, currants, cooked cherries, spices, oak, chocolates, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn. Short finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This 5 year old red blend from Bordeaux is tangy, spicy and smooth. Rich and fruit forward with nice complexity. Drinking nicely now, and will not get any better from this point on. Good right out of the bottle, and good by itself or with food. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. 13% alcohol by volume. 88 points. $20.
