The 2006 Sassicaia may very well go down as one of the all-time great recent vintages for this Tuscan thoroughbred. The year started off very warm but by August evening temperatures had moderated, leaving the fruit with a stunning combination of ripeness, perfume, acidity and tannin. The wine is simply glorious, that's all there is to it. Layers of dark fruit meld into smoke, leather, violets, menthol, earthiness and tar as this profound wine opens up in the glass. The creamy, silky finish lasts an eternity, as waves of fruit caress the tannins with breathtaking elegance. Everything is in the right place in this magical Sassicaia. This is one for the ages. In a word: Awesome. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2031. Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media

Served alongside beef short rib, xo sauce, pickled mustard seed, cumin stir-fried asparagus. This bottle of 2006 was throwing a ton of sediment. Showing mostly red fruits with red currants, new leather, tobacco, earth, forest floor, baking spices…a touch green. Hello Cabernet Franc!! Good structure. The finish is long. Every time I have the opportunity to enjoy Sassicaia, I am reminded why it’s one of the great wines of Italy. I just wish it wasn’t so expensive. Drink now through 2036.

Sassicaia came through in a big way, entering its maturity, complex but remarkably pure and balanced. Biserno is a monster, big potential but should be revisited in ten or more years

Ripe and enveloping. A bit of mint, dark fruit, Chocolately notes. Technically good but a little indistinct. Time in bottle should help

Have to admit that it's good. But without personality... Still to young. 2025-30?

A blend of 85 Cabernet Sauvignon 15 Cabernet franc from a great vintage this wine has a good amount of dark cherry dark plum fruit dark spice and earthy notes with lots of everything wonderful concentration and depth of fruit dark currants and a long layered finish still quite tannic but has wonderful freshness and a long layered finish. This wine needs time but has all the right stuff. Most excellent +
