Tenuta di Arceno Il Fauno di Arcanum Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2013

$29.99

It's hard not to be smitten with the 2013 Il Fauno di Arcanum. This blend of 55% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot is a rich and lasting Tuscan red that offers ample power and concentration. There are points of greenness here with crushed peppercorn and wild sage, backed by dark fruit aromas of plum and blackberry. Yet the Merlot component does much to smooth out and enrich the mouthfeel. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Deep ruby red with a little bit of garnet on the edges. Layered nose with quite a bit of earthy characteristics such as forest floor, damp earth, a bit stinky with some gamey notes, mushrooms and a tad dusty. Well rounded with balanced acidity and medium tannins (6/10). Very dry throughout with dark cocoa, plums, dried cherries and herbs, pepper, and darker berries. Full bodied with a long finish. Very impressed with this $25.00 bottle. Drink till 2028. (92+)

Super Tuscan blend of 55% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. The appearance is very dark red, raising expectations. On the nose it is rich with dark red fruits. The wine is very concentrated, very smooth (probably the Merlot) with lots of dark fruit, a bit of pepper and other herbs. Great wine!

Great aromas. But a little stringent. Might be because of all the Aperol Spritz beforehand. But still nothing to write home about.

Completely different from the bottle of the same wine, same vintage, we had only a few weeks ago. Bought at the same time, from the same store - but much better this time. Drank very well with hearty bean soup.
