Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Chardonnay 2006 (1500ml)

$489

The 2006 Comtes de Champagne is striking, especially in the way it brings together elements of ripeness and freshness in a hypothetical blend of the 2002 and 2004. Smooth and creamy on the palate, the 2006 is all about texture. There is a real feeling of density and weight in the 2006, qualities I expect to see grow with time in the bottle. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. The 2006 has been nothing short of magnificent both times I have tasted it. Comtes de Champagne remains the single best value (in relative terms) in tOte de cuvee Champagne. I suggest buying a case and following it over the next 20-30 years, which is exactly what I intend to do. There is little doubt the 2006 Comtes de Champagne is a magical Champagne in the making. For me the question for this cuvée is never, “ is it good?”. The question is , “how good is it?” Not as powerful as other vintages but it makes up for it with balance and complexity. I am sure this will age but it is in a very good drinking window right now.

Simply one of my favorite Champagnes in existence. I love it for its gorgeous marriage of fresh green apple and the toastier lemon and brioche notes of a long-lees-aged Chardonnay. Saline and just a touch of butterscotch to finish. So delightful.

Bright, light lemon. Chalk, steeliness. Very dynamic and pretty with a saline edge… delicious and drinking brilliantly now. Thanks Will!

Absolutely gorgeous champagne that is right down the middle in terms of style. Tart lemon, toast, chalk, and a hint of nuttiness. Sharp and acidic but tons of layers here. Continuously evolving on the palate revealing limestone, powder sugar dusted lemon bars, and roasted almonds. This is built for the long haul, but certainly enjoyable now. Thanks @Mark Flesher .
