Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Chardonnay 2006 (1500ml)

$399

The 2006 Comtes de Champagne is striking, especially in the way it brings together elements of ripeness and freshness in a hypothetical blend of the 2002 and 2004. Smooth and creamy on the palate, the 2006 is all about texture. There is a real feeling of density and weight in the 2006, qualities I expect to see grow with time in the bottle. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. The 2006 has been nothing short of magnificent both times I have tasted it. Comtes de Champagne remains the single best value (in relative terms) in tOte de cuvee Champagne. I suggest buying a case and following it over the next 20-30 years, which is exactly what I intend to do. There is little doubt the 2006 Comtes de Champagne is a magical Champagne in the making. Fresh, punchy and full of life. Lemon, limestone, chalk, lifted white flowers. Great fun

Fresh and sweet cool lemon with limestone, a hint of mint, and steeliness. Really good.

Absolutely gorgeous champagne that is right down the middle in terms of style. Tart lemon, toast, chalk, and a hint of nuttiness. Sharp and acidic but tons of layers here. Continuously evolving on the palate revealing limestone, powder sugar dusted lemon bars, and roasted almonds. This is built for the long haul, but certainly enjoyable now. Thanks @Mark Flesher .

A lovely go-to champagne. Great balance, ripeness, a hint of sweetness. White floral stuff, salinity, minerality. Classic comtes.

Taittinger's 2006 Comtes de Champagne Rosé is composed of 15% Pinot Noir with the remainder Chardonnay and it is a sensational showing. This fabulous Rosé opens up beautifully to pretty aromatics of strawberries and red berries which are laced with citrus zest, lovely minerality and subtle toast nuances. On the palate this shows a stunning combination of depth and energy and precision which defines this gorgeous Rosé as it leaves a beautiful impression on the palate. While the 2006 is utterly captivating now, it should also continue to evolve gracefully over the next decade.

Gorgeous BdB that really struck me with its power and intensity. Balanced by a spine of acid and freshness. No oak yet supple, rich, great creaminess and autolytic notes. Layered

Have enjoyed this several times over the past 12+ months and it keeps getting better and better with time. Perhaps @Antonio Galloni is right with his praise and I should have stocked up better.
