Mastrojanni (Poderi Loreto e San Pio) Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

$52.99

The Mastrojanni 2015 Brunello di Montalcino has a succulent or meaty quality that adds to the overall intensity of the wine. You get rich fruit, baking spice and even a touch of rum cake. The wine is dark and velvety in appearance, and the mouthfeel is robust and concentrated. I love the full-bodied appeal and power of this wine. It has seamlessly captured the spirit of the vintage. Its approach is immediate, and you can enjoy this wine without waiting too much longer. The mouthfeel is lean, snappy and smooth... Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Primary fruit, pretty nose of baking spice. Balanced but restrained.

Mastrojanni's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino presents a complex, dark, and earthy display of ripe black cherries that gives way to dusty, dried florals, spice box, crushed stone and hints of animal musk. On the palate, silky textures and pure Sangiovese fruit collect beneath resonating earth tones, all supported by a web of minerals and tannin. The finish is long and youthfully structured, yet the wine maintains terrific freshness. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2020)

Vibrant red. Aromas of violet, red cherry and licorice on the nose. Trim and modestly built, but with very good acid-fruit-tannin balance and clean flavors of red cherry and herbs on the medium-long finish. I expect this to improve with a little bottle age. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, April 2020)

2022/2/8-9 with eggs, tomato and ‘nduja, radicchio salad, etc. This was quite young and dense, with dark cherry and blackberry and some powdery tannin, especially on day 1. It balanced out a bit more on day 2, but overall, this is the kind of wine that I think really does benefit with age.
