Krug Brut Champagne Blend 1996

$589

A powerful, majestic Champagne. Deep and compelling, with aromas of whole-grain toast, coconut and dried citrus that draw you in. Lean and racy on the palate, with a creaminess that's yet to be integrated. A classic '96, with ripe, exotic aromas and a steely structure...with the long, resonant finish confirming its potential. Best from 2009 through 2040. Wine Spectator

Light gold color with classic nose of oxidized wine, dried fruit and barrel. Perfect mouthfeel with flavors of ripe pear, ginger and butterscotch. Still has teeth cleaning acid finish.

Oxidative notes. Peach, orange, hazelnut. On the palate pretty fresh. Slightly tangy.

Wow. Very pure and intense. Driving fruit with gorgeous acidity and balance. Pretty primary still with huge length. Apparently stored at Krug until 2017. Amazingly fresh and balanced.

An absolutely stunning lunch from @joe leatherwood . 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 5 reds and 1 dessert wine. All served blind. One of the best examples of champagne I’ve ever had. The moment I saw it in the glass, I was sold. Then I smelled it, and I was in love. Just absolutely mind boggling. I was between Jacques Selosse or older vintage Krug, and eventually felt very confident in my JSelosse guess. Supremely and beautifully oxidized. Sherry, candied ginger, honey drizzled stone fruits with orange marmalade covered scone. Nutty too. I can’t get enough of this style of champagne.

Lovely soft lemon with biscuity fresh breads nose. Lovely fine acidity, with hints of orange, oyster shells and a calm balancing minerality. Expansive and more and more delicious as time goes by in the glass. A sweetness in the edges. Wonderful.

Just a few bottles from an awesome Open That Bottle Night celebration this past weekend. Stunner. I enjoy the more oxidative style champagnes and this is fully in that realm. A streak of sherry notes line the middle, surrounded by poached pear, toffee, espresso and baked brioche.

Monstrous texture and acid high enough to dissolve steel, great champagne in 500 years
