Golden West Golden West Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018

$17.99

This is a toned and phenolic pinot with dried strawberry, chocolate and tile character. Earthy. Full-bodied, yet bright and vivid. Punchy and refined at the same time. Plenty going on at the finish. A new wine. Drink now or hold. James Suckling

A new Pinot from the K Vintners crew, using cooler climate, high elevation fruit, ‘18 is first release. Light Ruby with aromas of fruit and earthy herbs. On the palate flavors of cherry and subtle spice, a touch earthy. Dusty tight tannins, medium(-) finish ending with fruit and spice. Good value, although could use a bit more depth!

The Golden West Vineyard is higher altitude and somewhat cooler for Columbia Valley. Medium bodied Pinot showing loads of cherry cola and oak spice. Good bit of tannin on the finish. The first Washington Pinot I’ve had. Can imagine this going great with duck breast. You can tell these guys make a lot of Syrah from this bottling.

Barely drinkable. A tart Pinot Noir. That’s about all I can say to describe it. No real fruit flavors.

How this received a 91 point rating is beyond me. I have loved everything I’ve had connected to Charles Smith until now. Disappointing, nearly undrinkable IMO. Not an off bottle.

Half priced find that I thought would be worth trying from Columbia Valley. A bit too rustic for my taste and far too tannic for a Pinot. Not really sure what it’s aiming for but palatable at the price.

Very tart. Flavors of fruit highly overpowered by strong alcohol sourness. Not very enjoyable to drink
