François Villard Version Saint Péray Marsanne 2018

$34.99

Pale, shimmering yellow. Fresh pear, honeydew, tangerine and pungent flowers on the mineral-inflected nose. Offers lively, sharply focused orchard and citrus fruit flavors that are complemented by emerging ginger and white pepper notes adding back-end lift and cut. Silky and impressively lithe, delivering solid mineral thrust and repeating florality on the long, incisive finish. Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media

80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne from vineyards in the small, not widely known Saint-Péray appellation south of Cornas and across the River from Valence. Vines are about 20 years old, rooted in decomposed granite and clay soil. Fermented and aged in oak barrels for 11 months. Fragrant, complex nose with aromas of pear skin, tropical fruit, citrus (tangerine) and minerals. Medium-bodied, quite opulent, but also fresh and mineral. Some citrus flavors

The aroma is exquisitely defined and perfumed. The body has the togetherness and the structure shows dynamic tension. A virtuosic interpretation of the brilliant 2018 vintage.
