E. Guigal La Mouline Côte-Rôtie Syrah 1999

$1079

The most developed, evolved and forward of the three La-La's in this vintage is the dense purple-colored 1999 Cote Rotie La Mouline. An extraordinary effort, it offers a smorgasbord of aromas and flavors. Scents of violets, raspberries, blackberries, roasted espresso, balsamic vinegar, and pepper tumble out of the glass. It is unctuously-textured, full-bodied, and fabulously concentrated with a tremendous purity and seamlessness that must be tasted to be believed. A wine of singular greatness, it can be drunk young, but should be at its finest between 2005-2020. Robert Parker

Roasted mushrooms, coffee grounds, cocoa, dried figs, olive tapenade. Very savory finish. Drinking very well.

La Mouline proved to be my second favorite of the three Guigal La La's. All three are 100-point wines from the 1999 vintage. La Mouline is, dare I say it? The most feminine of the trio. It also contains the largest percentage of Viognier blended into Syrah. It makes perfect sense that this liquid masterpiece should boast vibrant floral notes, violets, black cherry and blackberry tart, vanillin and star anise. Pure sensuality on the palate, ribbons of flavor and texture create a rich and decadent tapestry in the mouth. The finish is long and seamless, with white pepper and cassis notes. Pure magic.

Tasting the youngest of the 99 Côte Roties. Great aromatics of black cherry, violets, vanilla & licorice spices. So elegant & floral just wished I had decanted earlier before serving.

Here the nose is more reticent than its neighbor, but kind of in that hot brunette friend way. Less veg more feral and dirt floor, more tannic grip. Must've been a beast in its youth. A slight A1 up in here. Really like.
