The nearly perfect 1997 Cote Rotie La Landonne is an amazing achievement for the vintage. An astonishing saturated purple color is followed by scents of licorice, roasted meats, coffee, toasty oak, plums, and blackberries. The wine is extremely smoky, earthy, and terroir-driven. This 1997 offers exceptional expansiveness on the palate, sweet tannin, low acidity, and a ripe, robust finish. Robert Parker

Absolutely stunning, with aromas leaping from the glass. You can smell it just being nearby. It’s ultra intense aromatics of smoked meats, campfire smoke, black licorice and both black and red fruit couldn’t be more assertive. Hard to put this one down. It’s flavors expand on the palate showing superb richness and a searing intensity, and they detonate like little tiny grenades. There is a supreme elegance to this wine that provides impeccable balance and a sensuality to complement its rich and robust flavors. Finishes exceptionally long with soft caressing tannins. A well stored bottle has much life left indeed. Fantastic showing, especially for what can be considered an unheralded vintage for the Northern Rhône. No problem for the La La’s

Tawny and almost opaque. Masculine heavy nose. Notes of black fruit, earth and iron. Rich and silky. Needed 4+ hours of air to open up. Light finish maybe representative of the vintage. Pretty good. No need to hurry on these.

This was really drinking well! Red & black cherry, berry fruits, complex flavors with a creamy round texture displaying baking spices, tobacco, menthol, orange peel & rose petal.
