Château Rayas Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache Blend 2003

9.541 ratings on Delectable
$475

The 2003 Rayas Chateauneuf du Pape has gone from strength to strength and now looks to be the finest vintage since the monumental 1995. Deep ruby to the rim with that classic Rayas nose of flowers, kirsch liqueur, black raspberries, crushed rocks, and minerals, the wine is dense and concentrated, with a broad, savory mouthfeel, sweet yet silky tannin, fabulous persistence, and a blockbuster finish that just goes on and on... Very soft and silky after 4 hours of decanting. Simply gorgeous.

The wine that hipsters & collectors can happily agree on. Such a fresh expression of 2003. When north east exposure shows its benefits

Much lighter than expected. Delicate color, bursting savory cranberry attack. Moderate tannins at first but really tightened up after an hour of decanting. Freshness belies its age.

2003. $330 a bottle! Barnyard on the nose. Red fruit. A lotta Grenache. Not too massive. Neutral oak barrels.
