Château Pontet-Canet Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

One cannot say enough about the labors of proprietor Alfred Tesseron, who has personally overseen the dramatic increase in quality of the wines at Pontet-Canet which started in a significant manner with 1994. This is a classic Pauillac-styled wine (meaning oodles of cassis flavors), as one might expect from a vineyard on the plateau of Pauillac, across the street from Mouton-Rothschild. Robert Parker

Fruits are very ripe due the heat of 2003. Fruits are creamy; blackberries, dark cherry, black raspberries, stewed strawberries. Tobacco leaf, steeped tea, round rich moist black earth, dry pebbles, crushed rocks, dry roses, soft leather, underbrush, high acid, tannin fairly well resolved, finish is a juicy ripe fruit blend. Drink now and for the next 10-15 years.

Pretty nice about now. In a very elegant place for this inferno year. Cherry, graphite, and forest floor.

Had a little funk that I was concerned about, but blew off after a couple of hours. Bright fruit, high acid, a little bret. Still very young

Smooth operator. Blackberry. Mushrooms. Hints of barnyard earthiness.

All in a well balanced wine. Still fruity, youthful. Not overpowering. The tanin is there, so it will last for a long time.
