One cannot say enough about the labors of proprietor Alfred Tesseron, who has personally overseen the dramatic increase in quality of the wines at Pontet-Canet which started in a significant manner with 1994. This is a classic Pauillac-styled wine (meaning oodles of cassis flavors), as one might expect from a vineyard on the plateau of Pauillac, across the street from Mouton-Rothschild. Robert Parker

thank you for proving my point. What a strange vintage. Still lacking integration, the wine seems to go everywhere on the spectrum and at the same time, going nowhere. I really don’t like 03 in BDX. At all. It’s a breaking point kinda vintage where wines were disintegrated then and feel disintegrated now. I avoid at all cost 03. Nota: review may not be really genuine as I am biased and I know it so I may harsher than normal.

One of the better older Bordeaux I’ve had in quite some time. Absolutely at peak with so many layers. It outshined an ‘03 Grand Puy Lacoste (which showed thin), ‘03 Montelena (sadly corked), and an ‘03 BV Georges de LaTour (rich/sweet). Absolutely on fire from pop, this 20yr old left bank Bordeaux showed none of the overripe/too hot characteristics of the vintage. Deep purple/black in the glass with no bricking. Full-bodied. Mocha, truffle, roasted blackberries and raspberries, graphite on the nose. Ripe (but not overly so) dark berries, plum, cassis with vanilla pipe tobacco and even some iron. Still a good bit of tannin on the finish. This shows as a “modern” style due to the warmth, but balanced. Wish I had more. Pop the corks and enjoy!

Beautifully dark and rich. So typically pontet canet and to that extent, typically pauillac in style. Beautiful example of the pontet style and the ripe 2003 vintage. I personally love where the 03s are right now. Very hedonistic but starting to show some secondary aromas and flavors. The 03s never seem to shut down and just continue to get better and better

This is drinking absolutely beautifully. Big, ripe and delicious. Gobs of dark fruit, yet complex and balanced. Like a top flight Napa bottle, in a good way.

Very dense, lush and ripe. Intense blackberry with notes of graphite and tobacco. Not over-ripe but pushing the edges. Lovely plush mouthfeel and long. Still young

2003 vintage kosher version. Classic Pauillac nose with lead pencil and cassis. Dense and layered with very good acidity in this very hot vintage. Impressive.

Surprisingly enjoyable for a 15 year old wine from a hot vintage. Classic Pauilliac cedar and leather mild tannins and lovely finish.

Just cracked opened the case, which was purchased en premieur from the winery. AG nailed this note, too. Needs lots of air, but exhibits a textbook Bdx expression. Fresh coffee roast notes, co-mingle with black fruits. This has another 20 years of runway ahead of it as the tannins are robust. This will further improve with more cellaring.
