Château Pavie Macquin Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1998
Nearly exaggerated levels of intensity, extract, and richness are apparent in this opaque blue/purple-colored wine. Sumptuous aromas of blueberries, blackberries, and cherries combine with smoke, licorice, vanillin, and truffles to create a compelling aromatic explosion. The wine is fabulously dense, full-bodied, and layered, with multiple dimensions, gorgeous purity, and superbly integrated acidity as well as tannin. One of the most concentrated wines of the vintage, it possesses immense potential, but patience is required. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2030. Robert Parker

Stunning 98 right bank. These 98s from st emilion seem to be firing on all cylinders. Had this beauty with stuffed rabbit at jardiniere while celebrating my moms 70th birthday. It had loads of beautiful fruit, some rose petal / violet and just enough earth to make it really interesting. We finished the bottle in literally no time. Excellent!!!!!

The palate has good acidity and showcases florals, minerals, and berries. I didn't notice the tannins until the end where there is also licorice. Lots of character, but not my preferred style.

An absolutely superb wine. It is around its peak. Shows dark ruby In its core. Intense aroma of cherry and blueberry, mixed with leather, licorice and pepper. Dense sweet fruit and full bodied in the mouth, backboned by firm tannin and acidity.

When you can't decide whether to select California or Bordeaux - the answer is Pavie Macquin. It may come from Bordeaux but it drinks more like a California Cab. Not bad, but not Bordeaux.
