...The shockingly good 2004 Mouton Rothschild was more dense with a deeper color, an additional note of creme de cassis, and terrific richness as well as length. A superb wine with a terrific finish, it could easily last for another 25 years... Robert Parker

Good but not great vintage for Mouton. Graphite, chocolate, dried pasilla.

Another great bottle from our Collectors dinner. Dark berries, plum, spice, cedar cigar box. Complex, well structured and still young - I'd keep it stored in the cellar for another decade.

2004 - bright, red fruits, herbal, but pretty. Elegant tannic structure. #mouton #pauillac #wine #bordeaux #firstgrowth

A proud #medoc cabernet dominant first growth; a bit brutish but also has charm; dense colour but looks aged; palate younger though; deep sweet fruit, oak has charm for 12.5%; mature to drink but plump fruit, richness and high acid; bright not dense.

Ahhhhhhh Mouton...... When it's good, it's amazing. This 04 is IMHO the first of the "modern era" MR. Juicy, intense yet it keeps the Mouton meaty character. I love this wine, truly but I rather have a 85-89 than this one for the price.

What a beauty. Definitely not ready yet but shows so much promise.

This really does need a good ol decant but has wonderful concentration, very deep, almost broody nose of intense blackcurrant and dark plum fruit as well as a strange but very attractive mix of blueberry & graphite, almost heading towards prune. A very well balanced mid palate though seems to be somewhat lacking in acidic lift overall but the fruit seems well integrated with the tannins, slightly underripe black berry fruit and with some grip on the finish, food would benefit this wine at the moment but it would be interesting to see how this comes along. Feels like it would benefit from at least another 5 years in bottle. Decent length.
