Château Mouton Rothschild Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1995

$745

...this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is "great stuff," with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2030. Robert Parker

Showing very well after 2 hours in the decanter but this is still very young and unresolved. Very enjoyable still but a long life ahead.

Still remarkably youthful, it’s rich, dense and dark fruited, layered with classicism of cigar box, cedar and spices. The palate is concentrated and powerful with a silky texture and incredible length. 95 is nowhere near its peak. Many more years to go. And while I’ll never be a real Bordeaux lover, it’s clear what makes these first growths special.

Still remarkably youthful, 95 Mouton is in a terrific place after a good decant. It’s rich, dense and dark fruited, layered with classicism of cigar box, cedar and spices. The palate shows impeccable concentration, power and balance of its attributes and a finish that keeps on going. While I’ll never be a real Bordeaux guy, it’s definitely great to see what makes these first growths special.

From the great Mouton Rothschild, powerful and dense with excellent complexity and still years of life left. Black fruits, tobacco, mushrooms and hints of incense. Finishes superbly long and intense leaving you wishing you had more.

The 1995 Mouton is just stunning. It's a pretty big wine but has amazing freshness. The season was ripe but the grapes were picked early. Perhaps this contributes to the menthol and sage notes that complement the ripe plums, cherries, leather and tobacco. Structurally it is stunning with soft resolved tannins. The finish is long with all the elements unfolding beautifully. Stunning.

A beauty from @Ron R that was a perfect example of a Pauillac with some bottle age. Refined smooth tannins, plush texture, dark cherry pipe tobacco, clove. Loved it.
