Château Montrose Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

The wine is remarkably rich, with a distinctive nose of sweet, jammy fruit, liquefied minerals, new saddle leather, and grilled steak. In the mouth, the enormous concentration, extract, high glycerin, and sweet tannin slide across the palate with considerable ease. It is a huge, corpulent, awesomely-endowed wine that is still relatively approachable, as it has not yet begun to shut down and lose its baby fat. It thoroughly embarrassed the 1989, itself an exceptional wine. The 1990 needs 10 more years of cellaring; it should last for 25-30, possibly 40-50 years. Robert Parker

So beautiful, fresh, and vivid. Cherry, tobacco, some leathery notes, and English Breakfast Tea. Medium-bodied. Clear, dark ruby. Gorgeous wine.

1990 vintage. Gifted a taste from a guest who brought this in and it was superb. Red berries, dusty old boxes, earth, florals, this wine had a box for every note and you could check off every one of them. It was superior in terms of fine tannins and silken texture and was just amazing.

So beautifully aromatic, delicate almost, not the same intensity as the other '90 I've tried, but great for different reasons.

Fully mature and delicious, with plenty of black fruit, damp earth and tannins firmly in place to match our steak feasting.

Could be the best wine I've ever had. Sweet cherry fruit, cigar, smoke and an amazing level of minerality, all impeccably balanced. It's hard to imagine how it could be better though I presume it's possible. Highest score I've ever given. BTW this was clear WOTN in a lineup w 2 other 100-pointers and 7 others in mid-high 90s. Incredible!
