Château Monbousquet Saint-Emilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

$125

This very structured, but polished, style shows a solid coat of coffee for the large core of crushed fig, plum sauce and steeped black currant fruit. Stays dense, but has a strong graphite and iron edge buried deeply on the finish, which should let this assimilate in the cellar. Lovely mineral, sanguine edge. Beautifully built... Wine Spectator

Robust and full of life. Many years to go on this one.

For this week's #MerlotThursday here is a very enjoyable Right Bank Bordeaux. Showing black fruits with earth, wet leaves, cherries, black currants, oak, licorice, spices, chocolates and tobacco. Full bodied and bold with medium plus acidity and long legs. Already showing elegance. Long finish with firm tannins and tangy raspberries. Well balanced with great complexity and a great mouthfeel. Still young and needs 5 years in the bottle to mature, but already drinking very nicely now. This is a good one for long term aging. Robert Parker 93 points. Wine Spectator 94 points. A very nice wine and totally my style. Enjoyable by itself or with food. A blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. aged in 60% New French oak barrels for 20 months. 14% alcohol by volume. 93 points. $80.

Meaty, crushed blackberry, vanilla, sage, slight vegetal, very ripe fruits, but good silky tannins and acidity keep it in balance. Sensual.

Amazing blend in an amazing vintage. Love that it is 60% Merlot, 30% Cab Franc, and 10% Cab Sav. Love the right bank, especially these small producers in St. Emilion. Drinking fabulously right now but probably not peak.

2009 vintage, a little young still, tannic, but still tasty

Nice nose. Made the mistake of poring immediately after opening. With time opened up nicely. Possibly consumed a little young.
