Château Margaux Premier Grand Cru Classé Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

$879

The 1986 Margaux continues to be the most powerful, tannic, and muscular Margaux made in decades. One wonders if the 1928 or 1945 had as much power and depth as the 1986? The black/ruby/purple color reveals no sign of age. The reluctant nose offers up aromas of smoky, toasty new oak and black currants, as well as a few flowers. The wine is mammoth, with extraordinary extract, superb balance, and a frightfully tannic finish. This is a Margaux of immense stature, made in a masculine, full-bodied style that is in complete contrast to the 1990... Robert Parker

Brawny for Margaux. Good deep fruit. Tang and blue stuff. Intense and gnarly

Velvety texture, elegant with dried blackberries, cassis, sousbise, cedar, hints of earth and dried sage leaves with just a subtle animalistic character to it. Not as long or complex as the Rothschild of same vintage.

Dark fruit. Very broad and opulent. With a lot of air, the tannins have resolved. Still a bit of a monster of a wine but the fruit is intense and very pretty. Lovely stuff.

Still quite fresh and young. Spent some hours open in the bottle and then 2-3 in a decanter. The lead pencil and tobacco notes are there, but less dominant than in something younger. Getting longer and more mouthcoating as the night goes on, with no sign of slowing down. Looking for more but knowing it'll be there sometime, soon? Kind of an anise note showing up. Orcas NYE

One of the best wines I have had all year. Aging well although ready to enjoy now.
