Château Margaux Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

Am I being too stingy with the 2003 Chateau Margaux? A wine of extraordinary complexity and intensity, it reveals a deep purple color, a style not unlike the 1990 Margaux (possibly even more concentrated), a velvety texture, and notes of spring flowers interwoven with camphor, melted licorice, creme de cassis, and pain grille. Not a blockbuster, it offers extraordinary intensity as well as a surreal delicacy/lightness. There is riveting freshness to this offering, which tips the scales at a lofty (for this estate) 13.5% alcohol, as well as an alluring sweetness and accessibility. It probably will tighten up over the next few years. Nevertheless, it is a profound Chateau Margaux that brings to mind a hypothetical blend of the 1982 and 1990. Robert Parker

Ok get ready... it's bday WEEK. So I figured it's time to pull out all the stuff I love and share with my friends. No better way to do it. This was a epic bottle and a testament to Bordeaux. 03 was supposedly a hot year and some of the wines can come off a little hot with big alcohol and a bit disjointed....This wasn't one.. drank this over 2 days...it's that good. Big cigar box, cedar and leather that seems to get better the longer it's open... now when I say longer I mean LONGER.... This has the backbone and structure to last 20+ years but if treated nice it will strut. Amazing wine and prob the best 03 made. Yes I said that... write it down and go buy a bottle and see what I'm talking about. 100 pts.

Last bottle in Oct was so amazing I had to get more. Equal parts here, but still coiled up and a touch hot. Give this 4+ hours decant to really strut. Dark fruit, tar, some leather and great nose. Another few years this will be a 100pt wine.
