Château Le Bon Pasteur Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

$105

A brilliant effort from well-known oenologists Dany and Michel Rolland, the 2009 Bon Pasteur is dominated by Merlot, with a touch of Cabernet Franc included in the blend. It reveals textbook notes of mocha, tobacco leaf, blackberries, black cherries, roasted coffee and wood smoke. Full-bodied and luscious with a succulent, beautifully textured, multidimensional mouthfeel, low acidity and sweet but noticeable tannin, it is reminiscent of the 1982 Bon Pasteur, which continued to put on weight for a decade or more. If the 2009 does the same, it will come close to equaling that legendary vintage. Drink it over the next 20+ years... Robert Parker

Black with scant signs of bricking. Nose of forest after rain, ripe black cherry, black and blueberries, cedar, black pepper and violets. Full bodied, rich mouthfeel, with blackberry foremost, madura wrap, pepper, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, black cherry, walnut, currant, and blackened yam. This is a holiday in a bottle, at a perfect spot age wise, ridiculously resonant with a deep finish and long persistence. Open this one with family and friends and appropriate feast! #chateaulebonpasteur #lebonpasteur #michelrolland #pomerol #2009 #grandvindebordeaux #bordeaux #rightbank #misenbouteilleauchateau #appellationpomerolcontrôlée

What a treat - Sunday night with the WNH gang on zoom - this 09 reminds me of the classic style of the 1982 vintages - super vibrant ripe dark fruit - merlot dominated with the cab franc woven in for length and full body - all the hallmarks of Pomerol with this chateau bordering St Emilion which means a blend of softness of the merlot from one region integrated with structure and power from the other - balance was immediate on the the palette and nose - the complexities were evident with mocha toasty wood and some dried fruit but this remarkable wine was more new world than old - @Antonio Galloni mentioned Messato as Michel consults for Messato and I see this but the ripeness was amazing and the cab franc for me separates itself distinctively for the Le Bon Pesteur - bet this wine has 20 plus years left but definitely in the drinking window right now so no need to wait - great call to try the 2009 vintages of Bordeaux @Shay A and @Bill Bender - I think you are going to like hearing what others had from the 09 as we all agreed that this vintage delivers and at the price point it gives really good challenge to the red blends of Napa

The “profile” of this one is big, bold and delicious. The wine follows suit. Gorgeous bouquet of tar, gravel and sweet red sticky fruit. Very expressive on entry with full rich and powerful lines. My fist ‘09 Bordeaux and this was singing. Gorgeous merlot dominated wine.

Ahhh Pomerol - there’s so much to love. A plush and unctuous wine - the nose and palate are in perfect alignment. Velvety texture with all the stuffing you’d expect from a Pomerol - rich dark fruits and a long finish - slight olive tapenade. Great value from my perspective

We had the 2009 Vintage on 7/4-5/20. Beautiful bouquet of red berries floral and earthy aromas. Blackberry, plum, chocolate and spice are on the palate. Fine tannins smoothed out with aeration. Medium bodied, Old World wine which is terrific.

Post-dinner: A celebrated, big, ripe Bordeaux vintage—deep, intense fruit with tons of structure for a long life, but the hot year makes it mature fast enough to drink now, too....Ringing in the new year with the best old school we could find.
