Haut-Bailly's American proprietor, Robert Wilmers, backed up by the brilliant Veronique Sanders, continues to go from strength to strength. A fabulous example of this estate, the 2005 is an ethereal, delicate, finesse-styled offering with intensity as well as richness. It has all the concentration one could want, but it comes across as gorgeously elegant and sublime because of its combination of delicacy, power, and depth. Beautiful raspberry, black cherry, currant, graphite, and scorched earth notes are subtle, but provocative. In the mouth, there is good acidity, medium body, ripe tannin, and terrific length. This is a beauty of haute couture from Pessac-Leognan. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2035. Robert Parker

Deep and delicious. Still a baby. After an hour decant it was still just a massive wine but started showing the complexity I expected. Really amazing wine but maybe a touch over extracted

This 2005 Haut-Bailly is rich and ripe. Although fruit driven, there is a delicious mineral quality too that gives some freshness. Certainly tasty now but not sure how much of a long lived wine this is.

I'm not an avid Bordeaux drinker, but I can dig this wine. Very well-balanced fruit, earth, spice and acidity.

Standing tall and strong. It has power and length but is very well balanced with fruit, acid, and earth. Drinking like a baby still and has integrity to sit for much longer!

Some backstory, but a bottle I had been after and stumbled into two and couldn’t wait long to open one. Did not disappoint. Lower alcohol - 13% - really suits this wine. Great acidic balance. Always rewarding when a long anticipated bottles hits.

This Haut Bailly is gorgeous still young tasting with red currant, dark cherries, burning embers and graphite. In a good spot now but can go another 15 years no problem!

Tasted at Chateau. 58 CS 36 M 6 CF Slightly faded crimson, semi transparent, compact and youthful rim. Noses of creme de cassis, dried herb, leafiness, gravel, with a good dose of ripe black fruits. With 12 years in the bank, it is still structurally intact, which is telling of the serious aging potential. Increasing complexity of integrated oak notes showing some savory, slightly earthy characters. Still lots of darker fruits very much present. Very decent length. Despite 2-3 hours of air, I still believe that this wine is in the closed phrase right now. Give it 2-3 more years to check back in, 10 to start enjoying its peak. 92++
