Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1986
This wine is the finest Grand-Puy-Lacoste produced after 1982 and before 1995. The 1986 still possesses an impressive deep ruby/purple color, as well as a classic nose of cedar, blackcurrants, smoke, and vanillin. Full-bodied, powerful, authoritatively rich, and loaded with fruit...Certainly, it is one of the better northern Medocs of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: Now-2012. Robert Parker

Pencil lead, very dark, youthful dense color, this seems barely evolved, and I’d guess has 25-30 more years of development ahead, rich, structured, great balance, fantastic older Pauillac!!

Another fresh and lively ‘86 Bordeaux, pencil lead, dark fruits, still pretty youthful and vibrant, great balancing acidity, solid structure, long finish, just a tad more power than the more elegant ‘86 Pichon Lalande from last night!!

Drink now. Light mineral on the palate, smooth, nice finish. Still an enjoyable nose. To open recommend using a "twist up" or two-flat-pronged opener rather than a normal cork screw. Cork was slightly spongy and moist half way. This appears typical of older French wines. Enjoyed with New York Strip, with a Gorgonzola cream sauce, as well as Grilled chicken and Bowtie pasta, with a garlic cream sauce.
