Château Cos d'Estournel Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

$299

This is a fantastic Cos d'Estournel... It is adorned with a lovely nose: blackberry, wild hedgerow, espresso, a touch of chocolate and sandalwood. Very fine definition and vigour. The palate is full-bodied with ripe tannins, superb symmetrical structure, dense, obdurate black fruits, a saline note, very well balanced, very focused, broadening out nicely towards the ravishing, supple finish. Excellent. eRobertParker.com (Neal Martin)

Another wine that shook me late on Saturday night along with the Shafer Sunspot and Schrader T6. With such a horn a plenty at the table certain bottles just had that extra gear. The depth and complexity here were astonishing. Woke up my mouth and mind immediately. Sandalwood, cherry pie, liquid leather and exotic spices. Best ‘Cos since ‘82 for me.

Amazing color and nose. Decanted for a hour. Really allowed the cherry and cassis to shine through in layer after layer of flavor as the night wore on. A beautiful experience.

As classic as they come. Cassis and blackberry. Slight green peppercorn, leather tack, red flowers, crushed rock. Exactly what I want from this benchmark producer.

So lucky someone thought to share this wine with me. Tart and mouthwatering and still so fresh.

Cos is a wine I have only tried a few times. A collector darling, most who collect it are fanatic only about Cos. Kind of like how Pittsburgh sports fans if you are familiar. These were both exceptional. The 2000 showed some tertiary aspects in the nose, less so in the palate as a strong, tannic structure bolstered my thoughts of much further longevity than the nose hinted to. Flush with the firm and chewy tannin Saint-Estephe wines sport for more time than their southerly Medoc counterparts. Plenty of layered, savory and pristine black and red fruits fan out over the structure. The 2005 is even more complex and dense and I would have to think will age at a glacial pace as this was just getting going from what I could tell as it was showing so young and tight. #cosdestournel #bordeaux #wine
