Château Cantemerle Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2010
...his is the finest Cantemerle I have encountered in my professional career of tasting young vintages (dating back 34 years now). Stunningly deep ruby/purple, with a beautiful nose of spring flowers intermixed with perfumed raspberry and blueberry notes, it exhibits a sort of cool-climate character. Broad, rich and intense on the palate, the wine has plenty of tannins, but they are sweet and well-integrated. Everything is delicately entwined into this beautiful, medium to full-bodied, dense purple wine, which shows stunning character and a prodigious potential for development. This is definitely a major sleeper of the vintage and even better than I thought from barrel. Robert Parker

I remember tasting this en premieur in 2011 it almost seemed lush and fruit driven back then (which is a complete 180 if you know this chateau) now 13 years it’s true to form, bretty, austere and tannic. By no means do I dislike it but I was expecting something different based on what I tasted a decade ago. With that said, it is typical cantemerle with lots of green notes .

On Christmas Eve with family one of the wines we opened was the 2010 Château Cantemerle. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot from the Haut-Médoc on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. On the nose there was black cherry, blackberry, leather, licorice, black pepper, cigar box and dark earth. On the palate was notes of black cherry, blackberry, licorice, espresso, toasted oak and dark gravelly soil. This wine is full bodied with a velvety opulent mouthfeel medium to medium+ acidity and medium+ smooth fine tannins that leaves you with a ling dark fruit earthy finish. What a wonderful wine this was. The Christmas season has been one of sharing with family and friends the love and caring for one another. I have opened the 2010 Chateau Cantemerle Haute-Medoc. 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The nose upon first opening is a little tight and at first not willing to show its true self. After awhile this wine starts to open and its true self becomes obvious. With vigorous swirling the red fruit comes through. There is cherry, strawberry, plum, red currant, herbaceous notes, mocha, sweet licorice, sweet oak and violet floral notes. On the palate we have black cherry, strawberry, plum, raspberry, herbaceousness, mint, slight oak notes and crushed gravel. The wine is medium to full bodied, medium + acidity, medium + sandy tannins that leads to a long lingering enjoyable finish. This wine is everything I look for in a good Left Bank Bordeaux. Drink now or cellar for another 10 years. Have a great start to your work week and please be safe. Nostrovia!

Very nice. But happily schizophrenic; pop the cork and it's big, jammy, and inky... Almost new world. Come back to see him the next day or two and the French accent comes thru. But still too closed to let the terroir thru. Obviously I infantcised this one... Cellar if you can.

Big boy haut medoc. At the outset it's dark, inky, and has a ton of oaky tannin. Give it time though and she'll sing. Within a couple hours, violets and purple fruits hum from the glass, with sweet black cherry and a now-resolved tannin rounding out the mouth. Oak still present but just accenting the purple plummy fruits. This'll last for days. Well made.
