Château Batailley Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

$89.99

The finest Batailley I have had in many years, the dense purple-colored 2009 exhibits a boatload of tannin as well as sweet, caramelized, black currant fruit intermixed with hints of charcoal, cedarwood and smoke, a full-bodied mouthfeel and the aforementioned high, but sweet, well-integrated tannin displaying no jaggedness... it can be one of the longest-lived Pauillacs... Enjoyed on Christmas Day (2021) so no chance for notes, but this was really impressive and a treat as it’s not often I drink Pauillac (frankly, I couldn’t afford to). I have to say this ranks among the finest 2009s I’ve tried, and, tasting better even two days later, it should continue to age exceptionally well.

The 2018 Spring Confrerie dinner was a wonderful time with some great Alsatian wines (and non-Alsatian wines) and fantastic food! Drinking wonderfully! I believe this had about 3 hours of bottle decanting before it was served and that must have been the sweet spot. Incredibly floral on the nose with a touch of classic left bank leather and tobacco. Well integrated tannins, blackberries, currant, plum, and a jelly note on the finish. Really enjoyed this.

Delicious, slightly earthy, blackcurrent and blackberries. Good depth and very open right now, as has been the case for a few 2009s I've tasted recently.

Smooth and well balanced but levels of acidity suggest it will keep longer.

Expressive but still primary. Tannins are mouth puckering. Needs time but it should cone together nicely.

Earthy, tobacco, tart red fruit, a little green pepper, hint of coffee. Drinking well with a 2 hr decant.
