Aubert Eastside Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2014
Absolutely profound is the 2014 Chardonnay Eastside, from the vineyard owned by well-known viticulturalist and farmer Ulises Valdez and planted with a suitcase Montrachet clone on a low-yielding root stock called Riparia Gloire. Smoky creme brulee notes intermixed with white peach, nectarine, orange marmalade, honeysuckle and buttered apples all jump from the glass of this great Chardonnay that is Grand cru quality, incredibly pure, dense, and long. 14’ Aubert Eastside Chardonnay The color has gotten a bit darker in the last two years. The nose is full of grapefruit blossom, lemon grass/peel. Palate- Rich, powerful, tightly wound. Pineapple, peach, toasted almond, crème brûlée, crushed rock, integrated acidity, & flawless balance. Starts to truly come together as it warms up. Drinking in it’s prime with 4/5 years in front of it,

This is a more opulent version of Aubert’s Larry Hyde and Sons, but not quite as powerful as Aubert’s other SVD chards. It’s got the lemon square tart, guava, and marshmallow bites, but everything is less toasted. Just slightly toned down. I think this was @Mark Flesher ‘s white of the day, which makes sense since he’s a Larry Hyde & Sons fan!

Not as cloying as some of the Aubert SVDs I've had lately, more light on it's feet and pure...still a bit more sweetness than older vintages but this is young.

This to me is great chardonnay American or French. Restrained but full bodied no perceptible oak. Mellow white fruit . Perfect with Maryland crab cakes

Always delightful, and certainly drinking well in the current window. Poured a little cooler than the Kongsgaard, and also benefitted from approaching room temperature. While slightly edged out by the 13 Kong in my opinion tonight, still a beautiful benchmark Aubert wine.
