Sipping Fine Wine
Rombauer Vineyards was founded in 1982 by Koerner and Joan Rombauer and sits on a tree covered knoll overlooking the Napa Valley. The winery features caves that extend for over a mile into the hillside. Golden straw with aromas of stone and tropical fruit with sweet oak spice scents. On the palate peach, melon and apple, with soft vanilla spice, rich & creamy. Lingering smooth finish, well balanced ending with mineral notes.

Round and loaded with tropical fruit. If you love this style of Chardonnay, this is your wine.

I used to drink this by the barrel back in the day. Still a heavy, oaky, buttery and polarizing Cali Chardonnay. I appreciate the consistency when everyone else is going in an opposite direction with Chards. Banana baby food was how someone described it...I actually kind of liked it. And a ‘16!

The winner of the Rainy Week Wine Awards is... the 2016 Rombauer Chardonnay! Oh my, this is extra big on pear and peach with just the right creaminess in mid palate. Perfectly balanced with acidity to make this my yum yum of the year. Okay, okay. So there’s no such thing as the Rainy Week Wine Awards. But I needed to create some excitement for returning from 80 degree Maui to 50 degree Seattle rain. And in all seriousness, get yourself a bottle of the 2016. It was harvested earlier than usual so it’s extra lush. Buy it! You won’t be sorry.

The wine I have opened tonight is the 2016 Rombauer Caneros Chardonnay. I have been curious about this wine because of all the talk a out being very buttery. I figured I would finally try it myself to see. The nose is very pleasant with full aromas of lemon, pear, beeswax, butter, vanilla, minerality and oak. The first sip is explosive with lemon, lemon peel, melon, apricot, creamy mid palate and as it gets deep into the mid palate on to the finish it is heavily oaked that over powers the rest, then at the finish the minerality hits with flint rock. The wine is medium bodied that is creamy with medium to + acidity that does leave your mouth watering. The oak is just to over powering for my palate. Enjoy your holiday weekend drink responsibly and be safe. Nostrovia!

Dark yellow color. Lemon, vanilla and spice nose. Brown sugar, spice and tropical fruit to taste with some oak and acidity. Very full and rich chardonnay.
